Tranmission swap

Post by Brzeski7701 » Sun Sep 29, 2019 3:03 am

Hello,
due to a problem with my cvt and the lack of mechanics dealing with these gearboxes  , I decided to change to 6 speed asin.
I am from Poland and would like to avoid part names.
list of needed items:
-transmission
- gear shift cable with jack
- half left axis (I have 4wd)
- tcm bundle (need soldering)
- flywheel (not by chance a torque converter)
I know that abs and tc lose then, but I accept it.
if I buy a set from 2005-2006 I do not have to program? (my Ford is from 2005).
I'm from Poland so I have a problem with parts if the parts will fit with Ford Five hundred, Ford Montego. do you have any auction sites where I can buy the necessary items?
Maybe there will be a specialist who would suggest what could break in my cvt- when 40km passes the key light comes on and there is an error related to oil pressure.
thank you in advance for your help.
regards Krzysztof. :D

I know you're also going to need the PATS from the donor, as well as I think the ignition switch.. possibly the entire ignition lock/switch assembly. You have to make sure you address the ignition key security component of this as well.

I did some cursory research on this myself (just in case). All of the info you need as far as how to do this is on this website.

Honestly, if I were to approach this, the best bet is to find and purchase an entire parts/donor car. Perhaps a 6-sp Five Hundred or Montego that had been rear-ended in a collision... or even a roll-over.

There is no such a thing as an AWD version of the 6-speed. If you put it in the 6-speed Aisin trans, you will have to give up AWD. All of the AWD 500s and Montegos came with the CVT.

Hello,
if I don't change ecu do I need Pats?
people on the forum assumed TCM from other vehicles and did not even have to program them. On ebay I saw a set programmed for my VIN and assumption 6 speed.
How much does it cost like you wrote a damaged Ford 500 you think it might be a good idea.
I know that unfortunately I will lose my 4wd.

PATS is integrated in the ECU, so if you use the existing ECU, then no, you do not have to do anything to PATS.

Could one use the drivetrain from a T Rex for this swap? Its got the much better 6 spd and is still awd as well. It should also bolt right in pretty easy.

A good question...depending on physical size, I had also wondered if it would fit and be able to retain the AWD functions. First question would be does the "other" 6spd have the same bellhousing bolt pattern to mate up to the 3.0 'tec engine vs the 3.5L?

I don't know if it was with the 08 redesign, or later in 2010, but at some point Ford stopped using the Volvo sourced Haldex III AWD and went with their own design- with the heatsoaking, failure prone PTU. So we may run into incompatibilities there.

I don't know why they didn't just use the 6 speed with the awd models they used it in the p2 and p3 Volvos with the same awd system yet ford went through the trouble of making the ptu different to work with the cvt. It honestly would have been cheaper for them just to use the same drive-train but with the duratec.
