Police interceptor brakes

Post by tonytaylor85 » Wed Aug 07, 2019 6:40 pm

I got this kit for 13+ flex/explorer with heavy duty brakes

Caliper brackets bolt right up front and rear.
Parking brake is a similar arrangement but different angle, I had to pull the cable out of the oval hole and run it under the control arm and tie it up away from the wheel. The bleeder is upside down so I had to bleed with the caliper loose and a block of wood keeping the piston in.

The fronts needed new banjo bolts, O'Reilly had them. Told them 93 ranger and it was correct.

I notice the softer longer pedal. I would prefer the larger bore of the 13+ master cylinder but it's her car and she hasn't noticed the change in pedal feel.

The car can get into the ABS under pretty much any condition now. It's like dropping an anchor. If you're doing brakes anyway, at least upgrade the fronts. The rears with the parking cable is kinda wonky so unless you're hardcore skip them.

Thank you for the nice description of this low-budget high performance upgrade! I have a question for you; can you still use your 17 ‘’ wheels or you need to upgrade your set of wheels to 18’’??

Sometimes bigger calipers mean bigger wheels...
Thanks again!

The bigger brakes require 18” wheels. Don’t forget the doughnut!
Drove an 06 LTD FWD from July 08 to August 10, moved on to a 2011 Flex

I forgot to mention wheels. We already had a set of 18s from a 2011 explorer.
