Changing Shifter Cable

Post by dessajarmon » Fri Oct 05, 2018 4:40 pm

I have a 2006 Freestyle. 253k miles. It's just now starting to fall apart. I'm about 95% sure there's something wrong with my shifter cable and it needs to be replaced. Anyone know how easy it is to do? I'm not a mechanic but I'm pretty handy and I like to do as much as I can on my own.

The shifter slides easily, and won't go into gear unless I start at low and then move it up.

Any help is appreciated!

You will need to pull the console out and then remove the shifter assy. with the cable. The cable has a boot where it goes thru the firewall just above the gas pedal, there are 2 nuts you will need to remove from that first.
