Aftermarket Head Unit Compatible with Rear DVD?

Post by GormyGorm » Sat Jun 16, 2018 3:57 pm

I am looking to upgrade my head unit with sat nav to an aftermarket one that has bluetooth, and all of the updated features, but I don't want to lose compatibility with my rear DVD player, or my steering wheel controls. What options are out there for me to consider?

I actually asked Crutchfield about this very same thing a few weeks ago, and the online chat guy said no can do. He said the rear DVD uses Ford specific wiring harness connection to back of radio unit and nothing they can offer will support it. While they do do have harness adapters for the steering wheel controls, DVD player functionality would be lost.

Alright, I decided to run an RCA to 3.5mm aux cable from the rca inputs on the dvd player up to my phone and it turns out I can effectively use that to play music from my phone through the car stereo.
