A/C Failing '05 Freestyle

Post by domstang68 » Wed May 30, 2018 3:14 pm

Hello all,

I have a 2005 Freestyle with just under 140000 on it. In the last 3 to 4 years, the A/C has been failing to the point that now unless it is only a little hotter outside than my requested temperature, it does not work well at all.

I know I would need a blender motor as each side temperature is uneven. However, I have had the refrigerant line checked for leaks and fixed, and the refrigerant has been topped up. My air filters are also all clean and the radiator thing in the front is clean. The weird thing is that the A/C will start to work better briefly when I really hammer the throttle, then stop once the engine settles, which makes me think it is something with the compressor.

I am wondering if my A/C compressor has gone bad, or something else. Any ideas? The car is nearing end of life I think for me, but for the moment I am stuck with it. If I could fix the A/C for not a ton of money, I would love to.

Scroll valve in the compressor, do a search for this and you will find plenty of info.

The uneven temperatures is controlled by something else.

You want this part I believe.

Anyway, I will try the scroll valve thing and see what happens.
