Knocking sound

Post by actionjaxon44 » Sat May 26, 2018 1:40 pm

I just bought a 05 freestyle and it’s a solid car, runs great. But there is a knocking sound coming from the front end when I turn the wheel. Almost sounds like it’s coming from the driver side. I looked underneath and I don’t notice anything. Any idea what it could be? Thank you

Agreed. Bad CV joint. Probably the drivers side, since you believe that's where the clicking could be coming from.

Clicking or light, steady knocking while turning can be the CV joint as mentioned. Clunking can be end link damage/warr or simply hitting/rubbing steering stops on full turns. Steady grinding or whining that goes up and down with vehicle speed is likely the wheel bearing.

Thank you for all the replies. I was actually able to get someone to turn the wheel for me as i looked underneath. I found it was the large spring on the strut that was moving.
That being said now that ive been driving it for a few weeks i noticed another sound. It is a humming sound from the front passenger side wheel. I only hear it when im going about 30mph or more and only when im turning my wheel to the left.
