Updated information on CVT fluid?

Post by 06SELAWD » Tue Apr 17, 2018 3:47 pm

I haven't been on here in quite awhile. The Freestyle has been passed to both my daughters and has been a great car. Called dealer today to get an oil leak looked at (front main I think) and to get various other maintenance items done, plugs, fuel filter, CVT fluid/filter changed. Service chick called my back an hour later and said that the parts guys said the "ECVT" fluid doesn't need changed. Its "lifetime". I basically told her she was wrong. I asked why did they change it @ 70,000 miles for me then? No answer. I said if Ford has an updated bulliten or offical paperwork changing what is written in my owners manual and maintenance schedule, please give me a copy. This is the first I've heard of this. We shall see what she says when she calls back.

Anyone else ever heard this? I've heard many different things from different dealers on the CVT, but never this.

thanks.

The dealers have been saying this for a long time. Not all dealers because it is not official Ford policy AFAIK. It's dealers who have themselves ruined or have heard of ruined CVTs because of improper procedures (hooking it up to the flush machine, for example) and don't want to incur that expense. This is only dealer CYA and you should look for another dealer, IMO.

Dealer called and said yes they would change it. I have gone to this dealer many times and had always been treated fairly. I had them replace the plugs/wires and fuel filter. Neither has ever been done and she has 149k on the odometer. One issue I wanted diagnosed was heater fan would not shut off. They told me $420 to fix. 2 hours labor and $166 in parts. $45 from Rockauto and 15 minutes and the new resistor was in. I won't be going back.
