Purely theoretical - swapping in this Mazda manual transmission

Post by PBblaster83 » Sat Mar 24, 2018 6:13 pm

Just a theoretical question, I'm new to the Freestyle community, but I've heard that the 3.0 Duratec engine was used in Mazda applications backed by a 5 speed manual. Has anyone considered swapping in this Mazda manual transmission to take care of certain transmission problems? I'm sure it would be be easier to just swap automatics, but I just wondered if anyone considered this route.

No. Easy going automatic from manual, not so much the other way around. However, the 3.0 Duratec is one helluva fine engine... 8)

While a mazda6 transmission, or maybe a late 90s mercury cougar trans bolts to the motor, this still leaves you needing motor mounts.

A compatible shifter and pedals would also be a problem. So, putting a manual in a freestyle would require lots of fab work. It could be done, just not easy.
