Aftermarket radio/factory DvD

Post by Ricker525 » Thu Feb 01, 2018 2:05 pm

Have a question, since no local company seems to be able to answer my question without transferring my call to 15 different people.

I have a 2006 Freestyle, I bought it from someone over a year ago. When I got it, the overhead didn't work at all because her kids shoved like 4 discs in it. When I would plug it back in (inside the casing) it would make horrible grinding sounds. Oh well, I had the portable dvd players. She had also installed an aftermarket Dual DVD player up front, which DVD conveniently doesn't work even if I have parking brake on, if I'm in park it still says cannot watch while driving. Not sure what she did there.. . It is an xdvd210bt.

I recently purchased a working overhead DVD player and was super excited to be able to take the portable out of my car. (Kids plus loose wires equals disaster)

Annndd it doesn't work. :| The red sensors (for remote/headphones) are on, it sucks in the disc. It just will not come on.

I am pretty handy, growing up with 5 brothers, but still a female and need specific directions

Is there some kind of wiring harness or splicing of wires I can do to get this to work?

I will go back to the factory radio (have to purchase it) if I absolutely have to, but do love the "upgraded" radio.

I really appreciate anyone's help. Before anyone suggests taking it to a shop and me having to shell out hundreds of dollars: I have 5 kids and a husband.. Who loves to eat. A lot.

I think you need the factory radio in place to make the whole thing work, but I am not 100% sure of that. If it was me, I would call Crutchfield. There may be an adaptor to make your aftermarket radio work with the factory DVD.

I've seen Crutchfield referenced in many forums.. What makes them so great? I'll definitely call them. Maybe you can answer me this.. My car VIN showed the radio in it was a 'plain jane" 6 disc changer. Another Freestyle, assuming the limited? came with a touch screen navigation. Do you think I could get that one or will I be in a confused state with trying to figure out what harnesses to get, same position I'm in now?

What makes them so great?
They've been around since the 70s, I have bought radio gear from them since the early-80s. They are the experts in adapting OEM and aftermarket equipment to each other.

I am not familiar with the touch screen navigation on an FS. Never seen it. My stepson has a 2007 Limited and it has rear DVD but no touchscreen nav. Perhaps you are thinking of the TX?

Awesome, I'll definitely call them as soon as I am able then. Was wondering why everyone kept mentioning them in numerous forums.

Oh, I've no idea what model honestly. Just took a guess.

I'll see what they say and update as soon as I can! Thanks so much!

Get rid of the crappy Dual stereo, and go to a junkyard to find the stereo you need. Or you can pull the Dual (VERY easy) and ground the DVD wire and the DVD player 'should' then work for you.

Crutchfield couldn't give an answer as to why it wouldn't work or any advice on what I could do unfortunately. I'll probably suck it up and grab a factory radio. Thanks so much guys for taking the time to respond, I genuinely appreciate it!

I would just ground the DVD wire and be done with it, myself. Take you probably 15 minutes total.
