Front wiper blades 2005 Ford Freestyle

The drivers side front wiper blade on my 2005 Ford Freestyle always gets stuck at the 12 o'clock position as soon as I turn it on... Any ideas please???

His Steve,

Does the passenger side wiper arm continue to move? Assuming that it does, since you did not mention that it had stopped as well. Can you hear anything binding up, as if the drivers side arm is trying to move but can't? A couple of things come to mind off hand. First the assembly that connects the wiper arm shaft to the motor has broken/come loose and it does not move the arm back down. Or, probably more likely, the splines that connect the arm to the spindle have striped or the bolt that holds the arm in place has come loose allowing the spindle to turn freely within the arm. Take a look at the diagram on the Ford Parts page linked below, it will give you an idea of the wiper assemble is set up:
