2005 Freestyle - How to remove passenger kick panel

Post by Galadriel » Fri Sep 15, 2017 9:41 am

In my 05 Freestyle, if the passenger stretches just wrong and kicks the carpeting under the dash (I think it is called the kick panel) on the right-hand side of the car, the speaker in the back right side makes all sorts of staticky noises.

Sometimes this will also turn the back speaker completely off, but then kicking it again will get it back on again.

I figure it’s a loose wire under that point, but I cannot see how to get that panel off to see any wiring behind it.

So, how do I get that panel off?

TIA,
Bob Mathis

Is this under the glove box or on the side in front of the door?

I never removed it in my Freestyle but I have in the Flex. Take the sill plate out then it pulls straight back.

I hate it when this happens. I ask a question, get a good answer, but then when I try to do what the answer is, I have more problems.
I do not see any way to remove the sill plate. Older cars used to have screws to hold them in, but this doesn’t.
Do you have any suggestions for removing the sill plate?

On the Flex it's held in with plastic clips, grab the edge and pull up.

I'll try this afternoon (have errands to run), but the sill plate looks like it goes back into the back door area.

It's the front, I replaced them with the illuminated ones.
