Is head gasket replaceable on 2005 Freestyle?

Post by Mark3066 » Thu Aug 31, 2017 11:28 pm

Have 2005 ford freestyle with 170,000 miles that the head gasket gasket leaks coolant into cylinder 1. Car runs rough for about 30 seconds when sits for a while and sometimes sets the P0301 code. Checked for hydrocarbons in antifreeze and the test came back positive. Did a lot of searching and seems like there is little or no info on replacing head gaskets on these cars. Is it possible to change while engine is in car, or does the engine have to be pulled?

The hardest thing about replacing the head gasket here is R&Ring the timing chain. It can be done in the car but it's tight. Suggest you source a Ford factory service manual on eBay.

Thanks...I am guessing bad head gaskets are rare on these cars. Found only one article with almost the exact same symptoms as mine, and he had a coolant leak into cylinder 1.

Just ordered the service manual. Any other resources you could point me to would be appreciated.
