Dual question: Hood Rattle and engine swap

Post by Beyond5150 » Thu Aug 31, 2017 1:16 pm

I have a Ford Taurus X SEL and have noticed a couple issues. First and most notably is the Hood rattling significantly when reaching 75-80 mph. I was wondering if this is a common problem and what I can do to fix it besides a bug deflector on the Hood lip. It's a bit disconcerting when it rattles so aggressively when on the freeway making me worry thinking the Hood will come loose when driving.

My second question is about upgrading the motor. I want to upgrade the motor to an ecoboost motor, but am uncertain on what engine to select. I am aware of need for the additional parts needed, I am just unsure what motor to select.

What do you mean when you say which engine to select? The EB from any Ford or Lincoln front wheel drive should technically fit but the differences in the wiring and electronics as well as the fact they are all AWD would make this a pretty daunting project.

As far as the good, have you tried adjusting the pads?

I havent tried the pad adjustment, so i will definately try that. As for the engine, are all ecoboost motors AWD? I know they made an AWD Taurus X, and I was thinking of converting to ADD at some point, but I didn't know that eb motors are all AWD. Thanks for the info

All automotive versions of the EB are AWD to help keep from blowing the tranny.

If you decide you really want to do this, look for a 2012 or newer version of the EB engine. It will have the newer water pump, chains, guides and gears.

Why you want to do that? It will be cost prohibitive......it will be cheaper to buy a used car with the motorization you want
