Filling/topping off transmission

Post by Thrusty » Sat Jul 22, 2017 6:57 am

Any reason anyone can think of why i couldnt add fluid to the trans thru the dipstick?

Id like to add a little fluid but i dont want to spend more than 30 seconds doing it. I dont want to take a anything off and try to find the fill plug.

You could add through the dipstick.
Drove an 06 LTD FWD from July 08 to August 10, moved on to a 2011 Flex

Roger. I was hoping you or one of the regulars were going to weigh in on that.

The fluid all ends up in the pan no matter where you pour it in. For CVT, the tranny distick and fill hole are only a few inches apart. If you are accessing one, you have access to the other. The fill hole seems easier to me because the CVT dipstick tube is at a weird angle. Not sure for the 6 speed, seems many conventional automatic transmissions use the dipstick tube to add fluid.

Because it would be stupid to do so???

Takes ALOT more than 30 seconds to add a little fluid. And why would you want to? Short of a leak, leave it alone unless you are doing a drain/refill.

Right. Can't use the dipstick to add fluid. Fluid MUST be added thru the fill port about 2 inches away from the dipstick tube...which to access you have to remove the air cleaner box.
