Cylinder 2 misfire code

Post by DATAfiend » Wed Jun 21, 2017 1:10 pm

Hi all,
My wife has been getting low power on the Ford for about a week now. I hooked up mu OBD-I I reader and P0309, CYLINDER 2 MISFIRE. I'm going to change the plug this weekend, but I'm fairly sure that was the plug that got cross threaded about 3 years ago. Any suggestions on how to approach this? I'm hoping to run this car for at least a year longer, it's got 160k miles and is a 2005. So we've done pretty well with her. If it's time to go...
This for any help.

Surely you mean P0302? P0309 is for cylinder #9.

See the details here (but apply it to your cylinder #2) -- https://www.obd-codes.com/p0306

You need the plug seated in there properly and gapped properly. So when you say you are fairly sure it's cross threaded, did you do that?

Yes, I'm sure I did it. In my defense, I think it was done by the previous owner.

I just checked the picture, it was a P0302 code. I'm a little nervous on removing the plug b/c it's been a problem in the past. I've been looking on videos and researching. but it's not very encouraging.

I would leave the plug and swap the coil pack with another cylinder. See if the code follows to the new cylinder. Doesn't cost anything and gives you some troubleshooting info.

Well, for a couple of days now the engine light has been off. So, I'm wondering if this could be an intermittent problem or maybe a one time error?

@splicer, are you saying change a wire from say the #3 cylinder and check?

Thx guys

No. Saying to physically move the coil pack from one cylinder to another to see if the code follws the coil pack.
