Just joined the freestyle family

Postby Mrniceguy » Sat May 13, 2017 1:05 am

Hello All

I just got a 2005 Freestyle SEL. There are 97,500 on the clock. I was my friends father who gave it too me because he could not drive it anymore. This is also my first crossover/SUV. I like it ver much so far. I had new brakes all round and the struts done. Just wanted to join the forum and say hi.

Thanks

Larry

Thanks Gentlemen.. great advice of course. I worry about the CVT but I am hopeful. I just had it serviced for my own sanity. It runs and drives great.

I'm on the verge of buying one with 130K for $1400. It's very clean and I'm buying if from friends so I know most of the miles were highway. The transmission issue bother me a bit but I think I'm gong too go ahead.

Hello,

I am just joining the forum. I didnt even know it existed. I have owned a 2006 Ford Freestyle for 9 years. It is fully loaded. It had 29k miles when i purchased it 9 years ago, now it has 180k. I have been in love with my FS with no problems until 1 month ago.

My story is as follows: the check engine light came on first, I was experincing no other problems at the time. I took it to a local mechanic who determined i needed an altetnator which i ageed to get. Less than 2 weeks later the wrench tool light and off road indicator light started to appear. Seconds after the tool light comes on the car goes into 1st gear and drives really slow. This would happen intermiitingly every hour and last 3 minutes until the car warmed, then more often. Now 2 weeks in, it happens constintenly.

I took it to a Ford dealer and was told the cmputer is having a hard time communicating with the transmission because the transmission is going bad. Estimate $4 - $6,000 to repair.

I really love my car, it is fully loaded, just purched 4 new tires, new alternator etc.

Has anyone had positive experience fixing this problem?

May I suggest looking through the forums and sections. The one that covers drivetrain would be more suited for this discussion.

There are so many things that need to be ruled out and we don't need to hijack this discussion to do it. Copy and paste your post in the drain train section under a new topic. Just my 2 cents.
