EGR / Intake removal

Post by mlacomb » Sat Apr 29, 2017 7:16 pm

I've been slacking in working on the car... but here we go. Tonight I start digging in to do the rear plugs... and holy crap, there's a bunch of stuff hooked up to this intake.

Ok. So, someone give me a tip on how to get that EGR pipe out of the bottom of the EGR (The one heading to the exhaust manifold). I'll be forever grateful. And I'm going to order coils and an EGR since this thing is so difficult to get to....

Alright - I've sprayed it down with pbblaster.. let's see what that does.

On a related note, anyone know what the size is to get that pipe off closest to the EGR valve? I have a 24 and then a 30 wrench; 24 doesn't quite fit so I'm thinking 25... will have to pick one up. Let me know.

There is not enough room, imo, for a big crescent wrench. You need the proper size open-end wrench, but I don't remember the exact size, it's 1 1/8 or perhaps 1 1/16? Can't remember.

I'll have to check that; I didn't think of trying a non-metric wrench set on it... thanks!

I tried it last night - 1 1/16 fits perfectly.

Thanks everyone! My 1 1/16 fit as well, off and back on yesterday. Getting some antifreeze to fire this beast up today.
