2008 Taurus X Limited
The reverse lights are out and the fuse and relay in the power distribution box are ok as are the bulbs. Any suggestions where to look next?
Reverse Lights Out
Re: Reverse Lights Out
Just throwing this out there, could there be a switch inside the console shift that triggers that circuit that isn't making a connection?

Re: Reverse Lights Out
Good question, I am new to this car and haven't dug out the manual yet. I am open to suggestions.

Re: Reverse Lights Out
Chock the rear wheels or have an assistant put the car in reverse with the KEY ON ENGINE OFF. Test to see if the bulb sockets are getting power. If they are, test to see if there is a good ground on each socket. If everything checks out, replace both bulbs. (as weird as it sounds it has happened to me with a customer's car that both burnt out at once).
If there is no power- suspect and check the PRNDL switch, also sometimes called the "range" switch on the transmission. This is where the signal that the transmission is in reverse originates typically (not in the console).
IF this is good then you will need to test for continuity from the range switch pin out to the rear sockets. If there is power and continuity recheck for grounds.
