Stop 12v power with Car power off

Postby Mrvilleneuve » Mon Apr 03, 2017 5:48 am

Hello everyone, just wondering if there is a way for the FFS 07 power outlets to turn off when you turn off the car. I have an FM transmitter that I plugin for BT phone and streaming and I just know I can't rely on myself to think about unplugging it every time I leave the car. I'm afraid it's not good for the battery to let an accessory drain power continuously even when the car is off.

Thanks for your help!

Other then wiring the socket to a switched source, no!

Don't sweat it if you drive the car everyday/ If the car sits 2-3 days between uses, then you'd want to be careful and unplug it.

I got something similar for my wife. It has a built in voltage sensor that will power off the device below 11.8 volts I believe so it doesn't kill the battery.

Are you sure yours doesn't have the same feature?

Hum. Good question. How would I know that? I'll look if they mention it in the manual.

It's the limited awd model.

Thank you all for the inputs !

For now I bought a Jabra freeway. Wich does a really good job with no messing around with the stereo.

The way your reply reads suggests you think I meant the FS kills the power to the port. My BT device is what shuts off...not the power port.

You are exactly right. Thanks for the clarification. I just checked my Fm transmitter manual and it doesn't specify that it does power off on low voltage.

Btw...I have a 2007 Limited AWD. Mine has 103,000 miles. Can't get the wife to quit going places. Yours has 120,000ish miles. So we are pretty close.

My brother had the car for 3 years as a paid company car. My parents bought it back after the lease from the company. They had it for 7 years and I just bought it from them. And they bought back my brothers 2013 Edge

Hopefully I can get about 3-5 years more out of it as a second car. Our first one is Toyota Sienna 2013.

No need to rewire the car or forgo your accessories. If you have a lot of "junk" running on your car you can use a digital battery saver. These actually used to be shipped on brand new Volvos of the era the FS was produced from the factory. They are manufactured in Washington:

You bolt the battery saver on the top B+ terminal, supply a signal lead to ground, and then the battery cable to battery saver unit. Anytime the battery drops below I think 11.5v it disconnects the battery B+.

That's cool. But it's kinda costly.

Most vehicles employ this technology now. Most ford's post 2010 have battery run down protection.
