2005 Freestyle Water Leak Passenger Side Fixed
2005 Freestyle Water Leak Passenger Side Fixed
Just fixed a water leak and thought I would pass along the info. 2005 Freestyle SEL with a moldy smell. Finally got around to getting my face down in the carpet and discovered the passenger side front and rear carpets soaking wet. Did some digging and found the culprit. Looks like the seal failed around the heater core where the inlet comes up under the cowl. Water was coming from under the dash, and soaking all the way to the back seat. Had to remove the cowl. I heated up the existing seal with a heat gun and pressed the existing with gloves and then smeared everything with silicone. No more leak. Now I need to get some new carpet.

I have not experienced this yet, but it seems to be a somewhat common problem. Ya got any pictures for future reference?

That link is a conglomeration various types of generic water leaks you have in every car. Sunroof drains, evaporator core drain, sunroof, heater core etc.
The OP made it sound like the seal was deformed. Leading me to speculate that someone had to remove the climate box

Re: 2005 Freestyle Water Leak Passenger Side Fixed
Just got a used freestyle, and it has been raining for about a week off and on, and now I have noticed the same issue. Passenger side only front and back floor boards wet. Doors are dry, moon roof dry (no signs of leaks). Can not find any videos or instructions on cowl removal to check the heater core hose gasket. Anyone have photos or suggestions? Dont want to start pulling parts off.

Yes I have checked the moonroof drains and they seem open and dry. I also checked under the dash this morning on the passenger side and felt no water. There was a light rain last night, floorboards are still damp from before.

Re: 2005 Freestyle Water Leak Passenger Side Fixed
Has been a slow rain for two days now, no obvious water. Pulled the glove box, nothing viable also reached up under dash as far as I could no water/moisture felt. The floor mats are still wet from before, does not seem to be anymore water.
Thinking it could be the drain for the moon roof but only when we have a hard down poor. Has anyone tried to use compressed air (computer cleaner) to flush the lines?
