CVT "helicopter" noise - input shaft specs
CVT "helicopter" noise - input shaft specs
2005 Freestyle Limited AWD
Mine started making the noise about 2 years ago. It's been parked since then.
I'm reading the noise is caused by a scored input shaft. And the input shafts are very hard to find at a reasonable price.
At work we have a full machine shop capable of welding the shaft and then turning it back down to OEM specs. What we don't have is the specs themselves.
Does anyone have the mechanical specs for the input shaft?

I'm hesitant to just buy a random input shaft from eBay, My ultimate goal is to keep this from happening again. "Do it Once - Do it Right"™

Hi I fixed mine a couple of years ago and can send you some sizes tomorrow if you want. I had a good input shaft that could be measured by guy I sent it to if he hasn’t installed it yet. Let me know I check this a few times a day. Jim in wintry (finally) BC

Even if I end up purchasing one, mechanical specs would be super helpful to those who would rather machine theirs.

Hello again sorry for delay had some cold weather issues and kept forgetting my calipres at work. So the shaft on drive variator that gets chewed up when the infamous needle bearing goes is .6465”. I don’t have my input shaft anymore as I sent it a month ago to a felllow so I can’t tell you the size that needle bearin fits into. Am trying to find it out though. On the end of the input shaft that rides on a bushing by the oil pump side that is .882” I.d. So the shaft might be a thou or two smaller there. How this helps.
