CFT30--CVT TRANS HELP NEEDED.. PARTS ETC..

Post by cumminsrocks » Mon Feb 17, 2014 9:04 am

Hi all. I have taken on the cft30 rebuild job myself and run into a snag. got the trans out and apart and the input shaft is toast as I expected. I have the parts on order, but the drive pulley shaft is tore all to crap also. the needle bearing is gonzo. does anyone know where to buy the drive pulley and needle bearings for reasonable money? anyone have one laying around they are willing to part with?? lol. any help is appreciated. this is my second freestyle. first one treated me good. traded it b4 I ever had to much trouble with the trans. This one I bought one the cheap knowing it needed trans work. I'm not to shy, I just dug right in. The needle bearing was toast, but honestly the rest of it looks ok. Aside from O-rings, which I have rebuild kit coming.... thankyou

Sir,
Mind me asking where you got the drive pulley? I am currently repairing the EXACT problem you are talking about. I have purchased a new input shaft. I now need the ned drive pulley, bearings and a new seal kit im guessing.... Might as well redo the seals while im in there playing.

Did everything go smoothly for you?

Hi. I'm sorry it took so long to reply. I could NOT log in for some reason. couldn't remember password then tried to many times and got locked out!!
I wound up going to a guy I found in NY, because in NH, where I'm from no one around here could help me. I bought the rebuild kit, seal kit on e-bay. I had originally purchased stuff from Cobra transmissions online, but the parts got damaged in shipping and I sent them back.
The guy in NY his name is Rami. He is in Brooklyn. Some ppl don't like him, but he seemed ok to me. He sold me the input, bearings, and drive pulley and did the work for 1400 bucks.
Then the car blew a headgasket bad and I had the subframe assembly back on the floor in a week. getting to good at taking this car apart and putting it back together.
Oh, I had a code.....p0942 after the trans repair. apparently everyone says trans is junk or mechatronic unit is junk when that happens, but I'm here to say its not the case. I took the whole valve body apart and found two pieces of crap in it. put it back together and all has been fine so far.... good luck
rami's number in NY is 1 718 856 5566. he does lots of cvt work. some ppl like him some don't. I thought he treated me fine, says he'll back up his work. Well see

I be more concerned with the availability of replacement parts [there are none available] than the tools needed. And if you need to buy the tools, you are way beyond your pay scale.

I took mine apart last year and made my own tools I could send you dimensions and pics of what I built if you have access to anywhere to build things out of steel. I didn’t take my oil pump apart which will sometimes cause some grief. Let me know I would be glad to help. I am in British Columbia. You do need a reasonable size hydraulic press.

Just a note the blue angle iron pieces were threaded to 5/8” reddi-rod which was also bolted through the piece of flat plate. This was used to hold down primary variator. I had to take it apart to get the input shaft sleeved cuz the bearing chewed it up before it completely exploded.
