Cooling system flush ???

I did a search before starting a new thread concerning this and found one "With pics" that was nearly ten years old and the links to the illustrations had expired and are no longer view-able. I also posted at the bottom of that thread four days ago with no reply so, I thought I would try a new one. So, here goes.
We bought an '07 Freestyle Limited back in the spring with 164,000 miles on it. It recently turned over 170,000. The person we bought it from was "selling it for his mom" who lives out of state, came here for a visit and found a Honda she liked, bought it and left the Freestyle for him to sell. He promised me his mom had a folder of receipts and service records he would "try" to get for me. After several attempts of messaging him and getting no reply I gave up. So, I have no idea what has or has not been done to this car.
Winters here in Wisconsin get cold quick and I really feel this new of a vehicle (Yea, I know it's 12 years old already) should heat up much quicker than what it does. I travel a little over 10 miles each way to work and back daily averaging 45 mph. The temp gauge comes up just under half and the car just starts warming up just before I get home. This is why I have considered flushing and refilling the cooling system but, I want to do it right and not have to pay a dealer or garage their ever rising labor costs.
If anyone can help me out with some "How to" videos, it would be greatly appreciated. I will be waiting til spring now to get it done so, there is no rush but, I'd rather be prepared.

How to Video link - https://www.carcarekiosk.com/video/2007 ... sh_coolant

I would also recommend changing the Thermostat also and check your upper and lower hoses I just did mine they were still the original .

I find that the Freestyle done best when using OEM Motorcraft parts .

Also I would recommend using a high quality coolant from Motorcraft as well.

Hope this helps you out.

Alright, Scotty17, I took the time to watch this rather choppy patched together video. While showing the "basics" of changing coolant, it doesn't show what I am aiming to do. I would really rather do a traditional "Back flush" to remove, what I have to assume to be, 170,000 miles of grunge build-up through the system.
Any other suggestions or videos would be greatly appreciated.

If you're going by the book, Motorcraft Gold coolant. Zerex makes an equivilant Gold coolant, but since you want to do it right, buy the Motorcraft from the dealer, $14 a gallon I believe.

Per the shop manual, you're not supposed to mix coolant types, green instead of gold type, in the Freestyle, although its done all the time. Use distilled water at $1 a gallon to dilute Gold to 5050.

My Freestyle warms up slowly too, mine acts like yours. What helped improve that, was to tough out the cold, and not turning on the blower until the temp gage comes up to full warm. By turning blower on sooner, I never saw the temp gauge come up to normal (hot) until I drove a while 8-10 miles.

My 05 also does the same thing if temps outside are 20degF or less... my work commute is 8 miles, if its warmer than 30degF, than usually the temp gauge will go to the middle where it is supposed to be within that 8 miles. I'm ok with this. I feel my coolant visually looks to be in great shape. Also the poster mentioned he had a Limited. The climate control wont turn the blower on until heat is available (as with most if not all Fords) assuming its set to auto.
