2007 Ford Freestyle SEL Gas Tank

Post by justinmartin709 » Fri Jan 13, 2017 12:07 pm

Good Day,

Thank-you for taking the time to review my question. I own a 2007 Ford Freestyle as a primary vehicle and have another vehicle which I use in the summer season. I reside in Eastern Canada and use my Freestyle during the winter months. The vehicle currently has close to 186,000 kilometers on it and is still running. I recently had to replace the battery and discovered some additional issues that require attention.

One issue that I am hoping I can get some feedback on is the gas tank. It takes approximately 30 minutes to fill up. I had it assessed at a local repair garage and the mechanic advised that it is some type of fuel vent/filter that permits air to flow out when fuel is being pumped. This appears to be a dealer only part and the part alone costs over $300.00 plus applicable taxes and shipping.

I am wondering if any other Ford Freestyle owners have experienced similar issues with their vehicle and if anyone knows the exact part name so I can search on Amazon in efforts to find a more cost effective part. Also I am wondering if anyone has any tips to repair the problem without replacing any parts (if possible)? I appreciate your time.

Best,

Justin.

You could also consider buying the part used, a local junkyard locator service I use and really like is http://www.car-part.com

You can look up parts & diagrams from Ford's official parts site, https://www.fordparts.com

Thank-you. Do you know the name of the part by any chance?

Best,

Justin.

30 MINUTES to fill?!?!?!

Holy moly Batman! The air comes back out the filler neck. Sounds like you have an obstruction in the filler tube. Go hit up a junkyard and get a different filler tube from a donor FS.

What happens when you squeeze the pump handle all the way? What happens 1/2 way? :?:

Look up, (purge control valve), item # 15 on fuel parts page for a 2007.

I agree with Splicer, I think the filler tube is to blame before the purge valve. You should get up under the car and examine it to see if it is kinked.

Hi Folks,

Thanks for the information. I had a mechanic check it out and he said it is the part that lets out air when Gas goes in, which is not working. Dealer price was $300.00 plus tax CDN. Could this part be the that could be "kinked"?

No. That part is for when gas is already in the tank and the vapors expand. That part has nothing to do with putting gas into the tank. Only vapors. Any air in the tank that is replaced with fuel gets expelled back out the filler neck. Just like when you overfill the tank, the fuel comes back out the filler tube neck.

I ask again, what happens when you squeeze the pump handle all the way? What happens 1/2 way? :?:
