Computer Module problems ?

Post by shadowwoodrn » Mon Feb 02, 2015 1:44 pm

:? Okay, now it seems I have a problem that needs attention, my 2006 awd limited has a check engine light on, it only appeared while i was driving in this Michigan snow, and i experienced a strange downshift when i let off the gas, the wrench light went on, when i pulled over and turned off the car the light was off. Now last night the same thing happened but this time the check engine light went on too...the wrench light is off now but check engine light is still on, the auto store checked the code and it says error comunicating with power control module.

Any thoughts or suggestions, i was told the computers are near the strut tower and get wet and go bad, $600 Part..

Thanks

I would take it to a trusted technician, maybe a Ford dealer, for a proper diagnosis. Parts store guys are not mechanics.

what the guy said about the location of the PCM and its getting wet is not correct.

yes, the PCM is located outside BUT very well protected inside a weatherproof compartment under the Windscreen, accessed from under the Cowl Panel Grille only, on the passenger side.

the PCM is also mounted on top of a platform in there.

so if you've never had that compartment tampered with in the past, then there's no way water will get to the PCM.

i park outdoors, we do have torrential rainfalls here and the PCM has never seen a drop of water.
i wonder who "Voodoo Bob of the Dead Poets Society" is hounding now.....

Did you ever get to the root of that problem? If so, what was it?
