Can I install this tire size?
Can I install this tire size?
Hi...I have a 2006 Freestyle SEL... original tire size is 215/65/R17... but I was gifted a set of 235/55/R17 winter tires. Can I install this size without major issue? I understand it is slightly smaller and may throw the odometer off by about a 1mile every 100. I am trying to nurse this vehicle thru another couple years...Thanks in advance....
Re: Can I install this tire size?
You might have some rubbing since the 55 is wider than the 65 but only one way to tell for sure.

Thanks for the reply ...how much wider, do you know? Right now I am using 18" rims with 225/60/18 with no rubbing issues

Tire sizes are measured in millimeters so the difference between the first number of both the OE and tire you are being given (width of tire) is 235-215 = 20 mm = 20/25.4 = 0.78 inches.
So OE tire size width is 215/25.4 = 8.46". The width of tire you want to put on is 235/25.4 = 9.25".
You could measure about .40" (0.78/2) from each end of your existing OE tire to see if there will be rubbing.
