I have a 2007 Freestyle (3.0, FWD, CVT) and do have some shade tree experience with auto mechanical items. I'm looking at doing a tune up, and other than I'm guessing that I have to take the intake off so I can get to the firewall side plugs, are there any more surprises I need to watch for? The last vehicle I did a tune up on involved ignition points, so obviously I'm not entirely familiar with 1987+ vehicles.

1 1/8 Or 1 1/4 open wrench to get egr off. I didn't have wrench at time that big and to tight to get in with crescent wrench. Only issue I had... Getting close to doing again. replaced plugs at 100k and now 185k on car...

I have 157,000 on my firewall side plugs, with no DTC's for mis-firing. General wisdom is you might get 1/2 to 1 mpg with new plugs. Unless you really want to do it again, you could wait until you have more than 85k on the plugs that are in there now.

I should have mentioned that she has 168,000+ miles. Also, it does have a gasket between the throttle body and the intake right? I only ask because I couldn't find one to order on rockauto. Of course I can always try O'Reilly's or Merle's here in town. Never messed with the 3.0 before.

Does anyone know of a shop in Illinois that is familiar with and services this CVT transmission?
