Just bought a wrecked 2006 Freestyle limited

Post by Free_Koch » Wed Jan 01, 2014 12:54 pm

just picked up this from a local salvage sale, now the plans to have it fixed are in motion.
the car has 90k miles and a long list of frequent stops to a dealership for routine maintenance, my first question would be do as far as maintenance anything that i need to check with the CVT Trans? Mycarfax.com list that at 85k miles the car had a transmission flush.

what you have there is probably a good transmission surrounded by free parts. Just buy another entire Freestyle with a bad transmision for $2k and swap parts as needed.

I'm worried about the ATF flush at 85k though since people here tend to believe that even if done at the dealer, the ATF fluid in the flush machine from previous use will contaminate the delicate CVT. Better if they just drained and filled it.

Its better to purchase salvage cars for sale from good auto auction after proper inspection. What's the use of buying a salvage car from a local salvage sale? Will you please explain....

If you flush the trans, it will be toast. You should only be doing a drain and fill. and replacing the outer filter.

If it ain't broke don't fix it. lol

I would do a drain and fill of the transmission fluid if you haven't already (including HP filter change)

Sounds like you got a great deal.

Awesome. Just don't listen to negative nannies such as AFrica_FS_07 who thrives on pointing out perceived faults with the Freestyle.

He is president of the Freestyle Haters club afterall.

The only thing i worry about is the CVT, so when I drive it i baby the car with slow acceleration from every stop and never floor it to pass someone, don't know if that will help prolong the CVT but it cant hurt lol. Been looking at the Taurus X, I think that will be the next purchase sometime next year when this one gets upgraded.
