Rear Coolant Lines

Hello everyone.

The aluminum pressure and return lines to the rear heater box are both leaking coolant in multiple locations. The parts have been discontinued. I found the same problem in one of the two Freestyles I found in my local junkyard. I tried three aluminum repair epoxies, to no avail. My question tonight; is there any reason I can't remove the rear heater from the loop completely? Just disconnect the lines from the front heater box and close the loop there?

Thanks

Linwood

Mine sprung leak today as well. Had into repair shop for a.c. recharge and alignment. They also quoted by-passing the rear heater core. $160 to by pass? I told them I would take care of it. Ordered new rear heater core from autozone for $50. My kids like heat in back in winter.

I understand that. The car has been passed to my son now. After grappling with what to do for a couple of days, I finally decided to just remove the rear heat from the equation. It along with the rear air, never gets used anymore. I just got two hose couplers and a U shaped hose and completed the loop where the lines come out from the heater core. My leaks were actually holes in the aluminum lines under the car. Apparently this is pretty common when conduit is used to protect the line. Dirt get trapped and rubs a hole...
