High Gas Mileage (That's good, Right?)

Post by pmassey31545 » Mon Mar 13, 2017 3:53 am

On the way home from church last night I look down at my dash and I am running 60 MPH. So I click over to MPG and it is showing 29 MPG (it was showing 30 but settled out at 29). ON MY AWD!!! The speedo is off by about +2 MPH. But that wouldn't account for that big of a discrepancy in MPG.

The factory spec says 24 MPG at highway speeds. Has anyone else experienced higher than expected MPG's with their Freebie?

Was that instantaneous MPG or average? Mixed loop city and highway with a bit more city, the wife gets 23 to 21

I was just using the dash display (AVG MPG). Used the OM protocol as highlighted in attachment.

What I plan to do is hook up my OBD2 and use my Torque app and see if it reads any different.

So. Ran it a little longer this evening. Still came in high at 26 mpg. But I'm not complaining.

I live in a pretty rural environment these days with a lot of 45-60 mph driving and very few lights and stop signs and I can't seem to get my average above 20 mpg per tank. That said when I was driving in Brooklyn, tons of stop and go, I was getting between 11-12 mpg.

When my wife drives to and from work and around town-her normal routine-she'll average about 20mpg.

5 miles is a small sample size. My numbers are per tank

Fun with Mileage.

We've been making trips from Illinois to Iowa for my daughter for college, around 3.5 hours driving. Mostly east west driving. Have noticed wide range on some trips , I think due to weather conditions. On most recent trip to Iowa taking her back after "spring" break, we only averaged around 19+. We were driving into strong winds most of the way there. On the way back home, minus our daughter and her clothes, cello, guitar, and laptop, we averaged a little over 26 Mpg, with the wind behind us for a lot of it. Even hit 31 at one point. On college visits, we had averaged around 24 mpg.
