Help! 2005 Freestar died while driving

Post by MarineWife » Sat Jun 11, 2016 7:46 am

My 2005 Freestar cut out while driving, will not start since then! The dash panel is on and reads "check traction control"....but a mechanic cannot get any codes out of the computer. Fuses are fine. Only thing they can suggest is a Ford Service, but there's no honest one in my area to tow the vehicle to, and I don't have money to spend on expensive repairs.

Has anyone had the same problem, and was it diagnosed successfully??

Update: One fuse did get replaced, I didn't know that....but don't know that that would make the vehicle die while driving. And it still won't start......

It sounds like your mechanic does not have an advanced scan tool. Either take it to Ford who has all the knowledge & tools or find a more qualified independent shop. It could be as simple as a sensor but it could be more complex, it's really hard to say. To find an honest shop, ask friends, neighbors, family, etc., check out Better Business Bureau ratings for local shops, etc.

Thanks! Do you happen to know if it's something simple like a sensor, could that make the ecm unable to give out any codes? (I do know the mechanic used an $8000 diagnostic machine and could get no reading.)
