That's strange, my wife's 2001 Saturn L300 that we traded-in on the FS, used to eat tail-light bulbs like popcorn and we never got a hyper-blinker. In fact, it blew them so frequently, I kept a handful of spares in the glovebox.

we had the same problem with our 2007 Ford Freestyle. blinking rapidly but the light was not out. replaced the bulb anyway and it fixed the problem. My guess is it blinks rapidly when the bulb either is already burned out or is very close to burned out. the bulb looked to be pretty close to burned out.

LOL, I was behind some junky mid-90s Honda Accord yesterday and the rear blinking was flashing like crazy but certainly not burned out.

It was flashing fast because the front blinker WAS burned out.

I have changed front and rear left side bulbs, still is blinking fast, here is what else my 2005 Freestyle SE is doing. Driving at night, I press on the brakes and the head lights dim, then go back to normal almost immediately with brake petal still pressed. Sometimes by retrying the blinker, it goes normal for a bit and the head lights don't blink like I explained before. Any ideas out there?

Thanks Brent in Colorado

Rapid flasher started a week ago or so and is intermittent. This morning my wife opened her driver door which was unlocked and the factory alarm (horn) went off (weird). It has never done that before. I will check all light bulbs for operation tonight.

Has anyone ever replaced the flasher/relay to correct this problem?

i didn't replace the relay when i fixed the flasher issue on mine (front passenger side)......i accidentally fixed it with a battery disconnect for several hours (disconnected for a separate repair in the car).

flasher has worked perfectly since then, even with the old bulb, although i put in a new bulb only because the paint on the old bulb was faded.

thanks for bringing up this topic again, now i i think i know why the first key fob i used to use stopped working at just about the the time the flasher issue came up, i thought the unit itself was faulty and stopped using it.
i wonder who "Voodoo Bob of the Dead Poets Society" is hounding now.....

I replaced the spark plugs last week which included the battery disconnect for a few hours but still have the flasher issue. Humm?

Well I inspected the FS today and found a burnt out driverside front side marker light bulb. Replaced it and its twin on the passenger side with a long life bulb from NAPA auto store. Hopefully that will do the trick. Will keep you posted.

My blinker was double-timing and, sure enough, the driver-side tail lamp was burned out. I took out a Sylvania 1157 and put another one back in. Piece of cake! I wonder how much that would've cost me had I gone to Drippy Lube or the stealership. LOL

I have the problem of the fast blinker/ remote locking problem on my 2006 Freestyle. The problem goes away as fast as it appears with nothing done to the car or gas fill ups or anything like that.

It surprises me that with all the silly electrical problems with these bloody cars, Ford hasn't recalled them for a fix because I think this is obviously a design fault.

I also get problems with my battery light coming on intermittently, and water getting inside the door panels when it rains. The car is poorly made I think!

If you were told you need blinker fluid you also might want to check the air pressure in your door locks.

Those muffler bearings always seems to go out at the worst possible time. A little preventative maintenance can stop premature wear.
