The 10 year club

Post by NorseaBlue » Wed May 06, 2015 12:59 pm

Yesterday, 05/05/15, was the ten-year anniversary of my purchase of a 2005 Ford Freestyle SEL. I still own it, and enjoy driving it almost every day. Easily the best vehicle I've ever owned. Checked the odometer this morning.. fairly low mileage for it's age, only 71,834 miles on the clock (115,605kms). On the day I bought it, I came home and searched for any enthusiast websites that might feature this vehicle, and discovered this one. I joined immediately. My thanks to the webmaster(s) for creating and maintaining this website, for I have certainly benefited from it. My thanks also to all the contributors who have posted such very useful information, especially those who came up with cheap (but clever) fixes for the infamous upper engine mount bushing. I hope that some of my humble posts were of benefit to others.

Ten years is a big chunk of one's life, so I thought about what things were like in early May of 2005 when I bought my Freestyle.

1) Gas was just hitting $2.00 a gallon, and SUV sales were down sharply because of it. (Now $2.50/gal.)
2) Ford Motor was losing billions per year, and CEO Bill Ford was in desperate search of a new CEO (Mullaly was still at Boeing.)
3) 30 year home mortgages in the U.S. were 6%. The RE gas-bag bubble was still inflating. (30 yr. now <4%)
4) Katrina was only a woman's name. The hurricane came later that summer.
5) Nobody had ever heard of a Kardashian or a Bieber. (Ah.. those were the days.)

So.. any other 10+ year Freestyle owners out there?

Best to all,

I now have 146000 km or about 90720miles on my 05 Freestyle Sel AWD purchasd new in Dec. 2004. The most major repair was lower right control arm, rear wheel hubs and front and rear links. Other than that the car has been trouble free.
