I just wish we had the old Africa_FS_07 back.

Previous posts from african man:
welcome to the forum, Guartho.

i also had your fears too initially, until some good people on this forum "opened my eyes" to see the fears were not so real.

this is a very great car!!!
wrong statistics....

the CVTs have been around for much longer than the 6 Speed, the rate of COMPLETE FAILURE as a percentage of the total CVT does not in any way justify the conclusion above.
there's at least TWO members on here with CVTs above 230,000 miles (as far back as April/May, there was a 262,000 miles CVT on here - SEARCH for member called "JEPOTTER").....several many more with over 100,000 miles on here - how much more out there with over 200,000 and not to talk about the over "100,000 milers".
welcome.
thanks for dropping the line above, another testament that the CVT lives as long as any A.T.....
many members have the 2005 and 2006 for years now, a few even for 5 - 6 years with NO SERVICE AT ALL for the CVT, yet the cars have been driving fine and with just minor issues like any other car of course, such as Pads, Tires, etc.

I'm in, BUT can we wave the dues as my Freestyle is costing me a fortune in repairs. Replaced the scroll valve last summer, and guess what, Hot ac on the passenger side AGAIN! Brakes, the helicopter Trans, and the list goes on and on.

Yuk  , i always knew i'd be a poor Politician IF i ever went into Politics especially with folks like mr knowitall who have this unbelievable talent for reminding you of what was said long ago,for their political profit

Yes, i tried to believe, but that's proven now to be a toxic medication in the case of the Ford CVT

we parked our rock grinder for now, because it became too embarrassingly noisy at P and N now.....a few innocent people who have stood/walked near the car have even taken to their heels lately when i put the car in P or N.

terribly LOUD gut-wrenching, steel crunching noise now at P and N  ......combat Helicopter noise too at D and L.
i wonder who "Voodoo Bob of the Dead Poets Society" is hounding now.....

When the mechatronics unit went out in ours, there was no grinding, only the sudden lurching that eventually shredded the CVT's gears. The service manager and all the service advisors gathered around it as it was locked in parked and was still lurching, trying to inch forward. The service manager himself admitted he had never seen anything like it!

I have a 2007 FWD Freestyle and I guess I meet the qualifications
for membership in the select group.

A few months ago at 109,300 miles my CVT started to make the
dreaded noise.

Now I am at 115,500 miles and the noise is slightly louder.

The big question I have is how much longer will the Freestyle run.

I really like this car but do not think it is worth spending $ 5,000 on
a new transmission.

Thanks,

Ken H.

Welcome Ken, to the club you never wanted to end up being a member of. I sympathise with your current situation, but unfortunately I don't think anyone here can give you an estimate of how much longer your CVT will last. You will have to decide if the associated expenses of fixing the CVT are worth keeping the Freestyle. Given our low resale value, it seems like to replace the CVT will almost cost as much as the FS is worth.

Good luck in whatever you decide and please let us know!

Well I can't belong to the club since my Freestyle is doing fine but the job is all yours.

Make sure to hand out the beanie caps with propellers during the meeting

mr knowitall,

nice cap, but how about making a Freestyle looking beanie cap with rotors on top?

BTW, i disagree with you on the "holier than thou" Tradosaurus.....The Good LORD warns about such folks 8)...."Wolves in Sheep clothing" saith HIM....

Who Will Be Our Hero?

who will be our hero
to save the Freestyle family from extinction
who will be that blessed mother's BRAVE son
to slay the Goliath CVT
the first to successfully instal the "6 Speed Trans" in a Freestyle

Who will be our Hero
To lead the "6 Speed" revolution
save young and old from the curse of the Helicopter noise
make our lives happy again
Who do we depend on tonight?

Who will save us all
From the hurts and pains of the input Shaft and Bearings
Who is the solution
To the CVT stains Of hurt and sorrow
Who will help us tomorrow?

Who will be there
to make a success of the 6 speed Transmission instal
Who will be with us to teach us how to swap it out
In the very end when the Helicopter noise from hell threatens ?

Will we face the last breath of the CVT
All alone without another option
Or will there be someone
To show us all how to make the 6 Speed work?

Who is there to dry our tears
Who is there to help us with our CVT fears
When the helicopter noise is heard in ALL gears?
And turns our frown around?

Who is there who calms you when
You think you don’t have a friend
Who is there when you feel so alone
And suddenly that feeling is gone?

who will be our hero
who will we sing his name for eons
who will have his name etched in Gold forever

let him step forward if he's here with us already
GOD send him here if he's still out there
fill his heart with courage and knowledge untold
GOD help us all if he's yet unborn
i wonder who "Voodoo Bob of the Dead Poets Society" is hounding now.....
