Re-sale value.

Post by Ryan57us » Tue Aug 13, 2019 9:31 am

Next year I'm looking to get something new and I'm trying to figure out the value of my freestyle. I have an 06 SEL leather seats no heated seats or sunroof. The interior is very clean and the exterior I would say is in decent shape (Backed up into wife's car with noticeable dmg. but not anything crazy except to her car.). I have put in a $3,000 sound system, which I might take out unless someone wants it (something to think about to the value of the car). It has 75K miles on it. Transmission and hpf was changed out at 60k miles. Always well maintained and 1 year old tires. I was going to ask for $5,000, is this reasonable?

I am no expert but try to keep an eye on ones as they come up for sale. Low miles is nice but it'll be 14 years old and a platform that isn't highly regarded due to CVT issues. Aftermarket parts don't bring much value. 1 year old tires could be 2000 or 20000 miles.

Without the sound system, I'd say ballpark of $3000-$3500. I don't know if the sound system is purely audio or if it has video monitors and things that would be useful for a family (i.e. DVD player for kids in the back) so that may add another $300. No doubt removing it and using it on another vehicle would be your best bet to retain its value.

I have an '07 SEL (no heated seats or sunroof) with 135k that I got for $2500. It's sharp but not perfect as I'd rate it 3.5 out of 5 Very clean and well maintained but transmission issues maybe looming with early indication of the helicopter noise in P and N.

$3000 sound system in the Freestyle?
Your car has a lot going for it; low mileage, clean interior, leather seats.
However you might get $5k on the top end. If you pull out the $3k sound system (which I doubt is worth that much now) can you reuse it or is it dated to the point that no one would want it anyway?

With parts and labor it came to 3000, however I would only add about 1600 to the cars total because of the system. Brand new head unit cost 700 alone but sells for 600 now.

So what will be your asking price?
Trade in value would probably be about $1300 so I wouldn't go that route.

Making such sound in N and P would indicate the belt is ready to fail. I wouldn't depend on that car to go across the street. That sound means something is hitting something else. That would usually be the case. Small particles of aluminum are make a mess of the rest of the transmission.

Ive got an offer of $3800 for it which is fine. I moved everything but the head unit and speakers out of the car.

I think that's a great price minus the sound system. Enjoy your new car.
