What is this noise?

Post by mrocks05 » Wed Oct 26, 2011 8:19 am

I have noticed that there is almost a "growl" as my wife would call it, about 2 minutes after i turn the car off. Is this the fuel pump or does it have something to do with self leveling?

Assuming we are talking about a Freestyle or Taurus X, I don't think any of them came with a self leveling suspension. Can you tell where the noise is coming from, like front or rear of the car?
I'd rather push a Ford then drive a Chevy

I didn't notice where it was coming from. I will try and narrow that down but yes it is an 05 Freestyle awd. I assumed self leveling because i read in another post that the awd models have it.

Some AWDs have self leveling rear shocks but, I don't think they are like inflating bags like the old Lincolns used to have that you could hear the air pump. These, I think, are calibrated some how that the heavier the load, the stronger the resistance. I'm not sure how they work. I know I have them on my SEL AWD 05 Freestyle because when I carry my 100 gallon water tank filled with water, the rear only drops like 1/4 to 1/2 inch. I don't hear any air pump running.
