Ford remote starter uninstall / reinstall

Our 05 Freestyle limited has a Ford remote starter that the dealer installed after we purchased it, and it has consistently worked great. However due to other problems with our car we may end up replacing it in the not-too-distant future. It seem that the Ford remote starter is a rare option for other Freestyles on the market right now and I'm wondering about removing it from our car and installing it in another car.

Has anyone done this before? Is it a lot of work? Obviously the install is a fair bit of work but how hard would it be to remove it from our car (especially if we expect our car's next destination will be a bone yard)?

Any way to tell ahead of time what other vehicles we might be able to install it into if we do something other than another Freestyle? Particularly thinking of Flex or new Explorer here.

I don't think it's worth the effort to take it out and put it in another vehicle. Technology changes too so just putting a new one in another vehicle you get is probably going to be cheaper and better. If you go with a newer Flex/Explorer it may have it built-in also.
