Rear vents in center console.

Does anyone know when the vents located on the rear of the console between the front seats is used? These are located just above the drop down cup holders. Since I do not have the auxiliary climate control my guess is it is used with that option.

with the dash vents. Honestly, I think the velocity of the air coming out of the those is pretty good.
