05 Freestyle, I Want a New Stereo w/AUX

Post by TWWilson » Sat Jan 21, 2017 2:10 pm

First off, I've got an 05 Freestyle. The problem I'm having is that my stereo doesn't have an aux cable. Obviously, I want that feature. I'm a metalhead. I need my tunes.

I've heard I can simply plug an adapter into the back and run it through the dash panel (albeit drilling a hole in the process), but honestly, I'm trying to make this car look really nice. I'd rather just replace the damned thing. Besides, half the buttons are worn.

What size stereo do I need, for starters. Obviously, I can't use one of those thin, $20 stereos. Any suggestions on exact product? Let me know!

Oh, I also recall reading that the factory speakers aren't great. They sound fine at first, but I've read that once you replace the stereo, you can really hear the difference. Suggestions on speakers?

When I added the AUX to mine, I added the adapter and ran the cable up into the cubby on top of the dash. I also added a power point and that's where I would Mount the GPS.

If you have the rear entertainment DVD thingy you can just plug your iPod into that with a minjack-to-rca adapter cable. That's what I do.

I put a Boss Double Din w/navigation, blue tooth, hands free in my '07. Kept the steering wheel controls as well. Forget about wires, blue tooth is the way to go. Looks fantastic! :D :D :D

I put a Pioneer DEH-6700BS in my Freestyle, its a great radio. The Pioneer DEH-6800BS is the newer model of my radio. Is comes with Bluetooth, AUX port, USB with iPod/iPhone support, Pandora, Spotify and SiriusXM Radio, with an appropriate satellite radio tuner. If you are unfamiliar with installing aftermarket radios, consider a professional installation or refer to YouTube to learn how to install one. Go to Crutchfield's website to find a radio and the needed parts to install your new radio.

One thing, if you want the aftermarket radio to darken when you turn on your headlights. You will need to buy a radio that has an orange or orange-white wire on the radio's wire harness. Crutchfield's tech support can help you with this. Also the factory radio in the ford has no real signal wire for the dimmer wire on the radio. I had to run a wire down to the Traction Control button on the dash for the dimmer wire on my radio. Use a multi-meter or test-light to find witch wire is the dimmer wire. The wire will have 12v when the headlights are turned on.

I was looking at that stereo as well. Did you have to use any adapter or did it fit right in. Also any special cords needed? Thanks

Just got a 2005 freestyle lots of miles but it still runs good.

I did exactly what he did. Also he explained everything to me very well. I've been enjoying my new radio ever since.

Hello I am wondering what I am doing wrong. I have a wire to hook into the red and white rca in the rear DVD unit but when I hit the Aux button on the radio it says no Aux signal found, or something to that effect. I am going to be replacing the radio with a new head unit that has Aux but I have to figure this out for my sanity/curiosity . Thank you.

Fit right in. Still have to buy the wiring connector adapter. Like 10 bucks I think. If you have steering wheel control, you also need an adapter like $40 I believe. The whole process is incredibly cheap and highly well worth the little amount of effort required. But the stereo itself fits easily in the old radio space.
