Driver Door Weather Stripping

Post by Palouse » Wed Nov 04, 2009 10:09 am

I picked up a used but very clean '05 Freestyle Ltd yesterday with 39k miles on it. I scoured the vehicle but completely missed split weather stripping that's attached to the body of the car--it's the seal for the driver's side door. The section that's torn is on the bottom and apparently was caused by the former owner dragging their feet over the seal until it split.

Anyone know how difficult this is to replace and where to buy a replacement?

Many thanks in advance...

Auto Salvage probably would be your best hope. Next to that would be a Ford dealer (probably quite expensive, but only one way to fond out). You could also serf the net for Ford auto parts. Replacement should not be that difficult as long as you have the proper glue, clips etc and a warm garage to do it in.

There's no glue or clips holding the weatherstripping on the vehicle, or at least there wasn't on my 05 SEL. I pulled some of the trim out running antenna cables and the weatherstripping just pulls off. 5 minutes to replace it, tops.

It's a piece of cake replacing the weatherstripping - if you get the OEM type it fits like a glove - just pushes in. I've had mine almost all the way out when I did my bluetooth install. Definitely spend the $$ with the OEM part so the door seals properly afterwards.

The weatherstripping can be had for about $45 plus s/h on some of the parts sites online.

auto wreckers is the best source to get the weather strip, or find adds where people parting out the cars privately. In Canada they are easy to find on Kijiji. Very easy to remove and replace. Once you remove the strip by simply pulling it out you will automatically learn how to install the new one.

Well I discovered an interesting thing in that the weather stripping on all four doors is interchangeable as I couldn't find a driver's one at Pull a Part. While at PAP I tried the rear driver's side gasket and it fits perfectly on driver's front. Kudos to Ford Engineers who consolidated the design.
