Lookingood for my audio/video gurus

Post by Bytem3 » Fri Oct 13, 2017 3:01 pm

Interested in replacing my stock head unit with a screen. Was looking into one but the gentleman said if I changed out the stock unit it would take away my rear video. (Got kids so I need that distraction lol)
True? and has anyone got around it?

Also interested in replacing my stock sub.
Just want to put something nicer in the same hole. . That's what she said. . Any recommendations?

I've got mine replaced with Volsmart Android that fits in to Freestyle. Its equipped with Navi/DVD/Radio/Bluetooth/backup camera and it has instruction for rear video, though I don't have rear video in my Freestyle, the replacement unit was great. I've got it from Amazon and had it installed by a professional, and according to them its basically plug and play.

I feel your pain OP.

Peavyk66...I don't believe you will be able to keep the rear video with an aftermarket unit without paying some big bucks. Not worth it IMO. I'll just find a stock unit on ebay.

I have the Boss BV9384NV in the wifes Freestyle AND my Escape I use for work. Can't beat it. Has the capability of rear video as well. You can get one on Amazon for under $150. Read the most positive review on Amazon and you'll see it in the dash what it looks like. Can't post pics here anymore.

Drove an 06 LTD FWD from July 08 to August 10, moved on to a 2011 Flex

You have an aftermarket unit WITH the stock rear video screen?

Or, you have an aftermarket unit that can output to a screen that you can put in the back?

I read the OP as they wanted a unit that would work with the stock did screen and system. And my point was...probably ain't going to happen. But I wish someone would prove me wrong. Cause I want to swap units also.

After the PB fiasco, I'm not going thru that again and I'm not paying the extortion fee they are demanding.

No, I do not have the rear monitors. I just know this unit will output to the rear. Not familiar with the factory but see no reason for it not to works, sans an adaptor cable most likely.

The OP also wants to use the stock sub system with a different sub driver, but that likely won't happen. But again, you can use the factory sub system with this radio. Sounds better than the factory system did. Highly unlikely the driver can be changed without changing the amp as well.

Any tip for a road trip? I'm attempting to drive to Utah and back to Minnesota with my family. What I do know is that I need new rear struts. Clockspring for the horn, and a wheel alignment. So far, the rest of the vehicle is okay with 122++ miles on it. Thanks!

I installed a aftermarket (Sony) deck in my wife’s car and have the factory rear dvd/tv working. I remember I had to do something funky to get it to work but can’t remember. I’m going to be doing some updating on her audio her soon and I’ll pull it all out and look again and post what I did.
