Transmission maintenance question

Post by Asjt3 » Sun Nov 04, 2018 8:22 pm

Howdy folks, first post on here and excited to gain some knowledge!

2008 Ford Taurus X 154000 miles, transmission will clunk around 48 miles an hour and also seems to shift somewhat sluggishly a lower gear. In the four years and 50k miles I’ve owned it I have not changed the transmission fluid. Would a simple fluid swap solve these issues or is this more likely pointing to a rebuild or replacement? From dipstick fluid doesn’t appear dirty.

Is there a plug to drain the transmission fluid on these or do you have to siphon it out of the fill tube?

Thanks, Alex

My fluid was changed during an output speed sensor repair a few years back, so i have not done it myself and am unsure of the exact process, but I am sure that if yours has never been changed, you should definitely try that as a first step to see if it makes a difference.

Yes there is no filter to change , just drain the fluid 5 quarts will come out, refill with Mercon V, drive for 2 weeks repeat procedure to remove as much old fluid, don t buy cheap crap fluid, stick with Motorcraft if you can.
