Electrical Problem 05 Freestyle SEL

Post by scostello » Wed May 25, 2011 6:42 am

My dash instruments (speedometer, tachometer, fuel and engine temp) all died. No dash indicators work at all. My reverse lights are on at all times regardless of what gear the car is in. I have 210K miles on the car. This is the first and only problem that I have ever had with the car. 2005 Freestyle SEL. Love my car. No idea where to start to fix this problem.

Does the car start and run?

if the car is running fine but no dash lights , then you do have the cluster problem people have on 2005 and early 2006 FS. Just replace the instrument cluster with new or used and you will be fine.

Yes, it starts and runs. But, it is unsafe to drive because the reverse lights remain on full-time. Regardless of what gear the car is in - the reverse lights are illuminated. I have no way of knowing what other indicator lights are on or off while I am driving. No accurate idea of speed, engine temp or fuel level. I will mention the instrument cluster to the repair tech.
