Recently bought a 2005 AWD Limited model with 151,000 miles. Dealership determined it needed a transmission prior to taking delivery so they put in a used transmission :?
I drove it for a week and the CEL came on. AutoZone determines it was running lean and recommended a Mass airflow sensor. Replaced that. Went to drive it the other day and the wrench light and check transmission light came on. I decided it was going to go back to the dealership where I purchased it and they could deal with this situation. I loaded it on a borrowed trailer and hauled it in. The service department informed me that I would have to pay a $260 transmission diagnostic fee which is non refundable. Fine. :(
They called and told us the transmission was fine, but the ECM was fried and need to be replaced to the tune of $1,000+ tax! :x
I am sick of this car already and my wife has now told me “no more Ford vehicles under any circumstances!”
Hope this solves the underlying issues and I get at least a year worth of service out of this thing. Not a satisfied customer!

Bring home a 13 year old anything and see what surprises it will have.

That is very true. Just difficult to explain to my wife that likes new and pretty.

The dealership called and told us the car needs to be towed to a Ford dealer to have the system reprogrammed and that is something we need to arrange. GREAT! Called my Geico insurance and thankfully my roadside assistance will cover this tow. Hope they can get it all figured out!

The latest update is that the Ford dealer has installed and programmed the ECM and it works with both keys, but the car will not engage in gear. The service manager from the dealership we bought it at has authorized the Ford dealer to do a diagnosis on the car and then they will let us know of any additional problems.
Trade in value according to kbb.com is $834. Private party resale is $3285. Looks like I’ll be at a loss no matter what I do!

Picked up the car from the service department, paid the $1495 bill. Drove it home, to dinner, the next morning went to go shopping and then take it back to dealership to address a concern about a trim piece they left off and the check transmission indicators came on again. Limped it home and now it just sits in my driveway. My lovely wife has contacted the general manager of the dealership where we bought this bucket of bolts car. I wouldn’t want to be him.
