2005 CVT Different from 2006?

Post by Heath478 » Sat Aug 12, 2017 2:02 pm

I have a 2005 Ford freestyle and an 2006 Ford freestyle, anybody have the wiring diagram for the transmission pigtails? 2005 has 8 pins with a blue wire and the 2006 has 7 pins without the blue wire. I am trying to place the 2005 CVT in the 2006 and am wondering what the difference is between the pigtails and how to bypass if needed. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

2005 CVT Different from 2006?

I moved these posts to their own topic since they don't have anything to do with swapping the 6 speed for the CVT
Drove an 06 LTD FWD from July 08 to August 10, moved on to a 2011 Flex

Has anyone done a regular CVT to CVT swap for the free style?

The wiring diagram of both the 05 and 06 look the same on paper. Idk if I can do a swap of the cvts and have no issues. Can anybody help?

I have seen zero documentation to suggest there is any difference between a 2005 and 2006. I have a friend who owns an AAMCO and he let me look at their rebuild guides for the CFT30 and it makes no distinction between model years. My guess, they are probably the same and it took Ford/ZF a year or 2 to figure out they had a problem and decide what to do about it. Can't prove it categorically, but.....

Would I have to reprogram anything or change pcms?

Maybe. I replaced the TCM last year, the one I got, while it did not say so, was from an AWD and I have a FWD. So when it came up, it complained. But it still drove, at least for the 10 miles to the dealer to have it reprogrammed, which was $145. So if your question is - is there some type of PCM to TCM "lockout" that will prevent it from driving, I don't think so.

If you are replacing a transmission, I am pretty sure in the grand scheme of things, getting it reprogrammed is probably not a significant expense. I mean, the transmission fluid itself will cost more (particularly if you use the Mopar CVT fluid).

Yes, did that on ours years ago, me and mech and an extra hand (at some point)......its a straight swap for FWD to FWD.....and AWD to AWD.

ours was a FWD....i posted the pictures of the whole process here, in a topic for the issue.

No need to flash any TCM and/or PCM......thing learns itself and drives fine......i never flashed anything while he was part of us.

ah, found it....see page 8 and 9 here: viewtopic.php?t=5736&start=105

if you had time to spare, you might start from page 1 to see my whole experience with the noise from hade's deepest !

(BTW, i'm very lucky to get signed in tonight, haven't been able to for almost 2 months now, website issue)
i wonder who "Voodoo Bob of the Dead Poets Society" is hounding now.....

Wondering what symptoms you had when your TCM died? I am suspecting that is my issue but haven’t ever heard of anyone but you replacing just the TCM on the mechatronic. My transmission worked after changing input shaft needle bearing but then the next day couldn’t get wrench light to go off. Any input would be appreciated thanks Jim
