They are the same. 05-06 fusion, 500, mazda 6, and mercury montego. The 06 Lincoln zephyr, and milan are also all the same from the computer down. I highly doubt all of those have the same engine controllers, so you might need to program the tcu.

Anyone ever try the Aisin AWF-21 6speed awd trans from a Fusion? I have access to one of these right now and my 2006 AWD freestyle is dying for the second time since I have owed it. I love the car just hate the CVT.
Be a pioneer! If you can successfully put an AWD 6-speed in a Freestyle, you will be the first AFAIK.

Lol. Missed the AWD part. Not sure what you would be getting into there. Might be worth buying a newer car?

Did a bunch of research for trying the fusion transmission but way to many differences with the spline numbers for the axles and lengths. Picked up a 06 Five Hundred Limited with the fwd 6 speed and will be starting my swap shortly.

You do not change the entire ABS unit, you just swap the electronics module. You do not open the brake hydraulic system at all.

All 500s and Freestyles have traction control.
I thought this was a great idea until I removed the control modules. The ABS module on the left is from the Freestyle and the one on the right is from the 500. Both are 2006 models. Obviously they are not compatible. My Freestle does not have Traction Control, or at least it doesn't have a Traction Control off button on the lower console next to the emergency flasher button. This is getting frustrating.021.JPG
I finally finished my conversion to the six speed. Everything works great. I went ahead and installed the ABS unit with the traction control onto my Freestyle without traction control just to see if it would work. When I started the car for the first time after installation, the ABS light came on, but after the car ran for about 10 minutes, the light went off and has stayed off. The brakes work fine. Maybe it took a few minutes for the PCM to think that the T/C was turned off. I don't know, but I am happy with the conversion.

Watch out for the traction control vs no traction control issue that zwknhmr uncovered.

Both have traction control, I checked that first thing. Thanks for giving me the heads up

Finished the swap and it went off without any problems. Everything works as it should and now it runs better than ever!
