FORD EXTENDS WARRANTY ON THROTTLE BODY

Post by brijack515 » Sat Dec 15, 2012 1:24 pm

At Last!!!

Ford has extended the warranty on the Ford Freestyle THROTTLE BODY SURGE PROBLEM. For most cars, it is now 10 years and 150,000 miles or if you have exceeded the mileage, you will have until May 2013.

I received my letter today. The warranty extension is vehicle specific by VIN and the letters are addressed to the registered owner to that VIN.

More to follow.

I originally cleaned the throttle body and it seemed to work for a while. But then it was doing the surge thing on a very hot day, even when the TB was clean! When I brought the car home the throttle body died right in the driveway.
OK, I see the one time repair part now
Now I would be really impressed if they admitted the TB was poor quality/design and they wanted to pay for my replacement TB and labor! But, that ain't gonna happen! I will quit now before I have a rage spiral.

I moved this thread to the Engine forum, and made it sticky.

Only experienced strong surge problem when using a fuel injector cleaner additive. Discontinued, but have recently getting poor mileage and gasoline smell upon starting. Was going to call my dealer to have fuel filter changed anyway. Hope the throttle body service offered can cover a big part of getting my mileage back up to standard.

Ford needs to do this for the CVT instead of the throttle body. My sister-in-law's 2005 Nissan Murano had similar issues with her CVT and Nissan not only fixed it for free, but also extended the warranty on it for 10 years/100,000 miles for all Murano CVTs. There's a big difference between a $350 throttle body and a $3500 CVT.

I agree with the CVT comment. Expcept it is like $6800 for a CVT from ford before installation according to my dealer. My Freestyle is currently down with a CVT problem (not the mechatronic as I put two new ones in) and is driving me crazy. Cant get parts, cant get service and nobody wants to shell out $7k for a transmission on a car worth much less. Shame on them for this. I never had a throttle body issue, but then again I cleaned it regularly as well.

Does this apply to Canada or just the USA?

Got my letter on Thursday as well. Never had an issue discussed here but it's good to have this covered in case something pops. My Freestyle is about 6 years old yet only 46,000 miles on it :)

good to know. we had Fuel Induction service done ($125) 30k ago and have not had a problem since. we are at 81K. Hope to make it to 100k and to get it thru a couple of years of college for our son (he hates driving it. It is such a "mom" car). If is starts again i"ll let Ford fix it.
