Well, AAA said the transmission was slipping last time I had it in for service for the ERG & general check (I think ERG is what it was - not a car techie at all). So I figured it was the trans. I just went outside to try and crank it after I left my last post and when I turned the ignition it was doing the same. It seemed like it wanted to start but when I turn the key all the way, it's like it doesn't "catch". Not sure if I'm explaining it properly. Considering having it towed to AAA and checked to get an answer instead of just writing it off. Only other symptom was the incessant Oil Change % message but that sensor wasn't accurate because it's been on since the last oil change give or take 800 miles.
I haven't considered the Flex but maybe I should go take a look. I think I'm determined to go used this time around. But I'm not sure that I want to get a 3rd Ford. My first was a 1998 Explorer.

Agree, not necessarily the transmission which, by the way, was the only problem we have had with our FS.

You have to manually clear the computer for the oil change light to go off.

Almost 288,000 on ours so far...All original. ;) (knocks on wood!)

Almost to 194k on 2006 AWD model. Bought used at 30,000 miles.
Been a great car to drive - so reliable, and a bear driving in our very tough winters.
Biggest issue replacing the DEM module, which help from here had me keeping it, repairing reasonably, and not having to "get a new car because it will be over $3000" according to the dealer.
Sadly rust issues living in upstate NY with real salt issues - lots of snow and it's needed. So will be replaced soon once I get a new job contract.
Have so appreciated this forum!

Where are you seeing the rust issues? I see a shocking amount on what I'd call the rear engine cradle (back behind the firewall, under the floor). Ohio - 109k. I hate to think that this would fail and cause me to have to trash the car.

Yeah, we get treated to road salt pretty good in the winters. I'm up north South east of Cleveland close to Amish country.

So, could the owner of this post list a summary, with perhaps Year of car, AWD or FWD and mileage of each from highest to lowest? Thank you that would be nice!

213,000 miles on our 07 Limited. Replaced AC compressor at around 200,000, which cured all the same AC issues of scroll valves, etc. Original CVT is just starting to be problematic (see my thread of Dec. 6th, titled 2007 Freestyle...OBD Code P0715...). Not sure what to do with that...anyone dealt with that code?

No, I have not dealt with the code. But, I did replace the CVT at roughly 140K. Not funny.

Hey all,

I know I'm jumping on an old thread here, but I'm considering purchasing a 2005 freestyle sel as a back and forth to work car. (Approx 30 country / city miles per day) Pros, nice body ( for north Midwest rust), nice interior. Cons, 210,000 miles. Asking price is $2000, but I think I could get it down. Am I crazy to consider this vehicle with 210k miles? If anyone is still out there I'd appreciate any response. Thanks!

I do. Just bought my 05 Freestyle SEL 3 months ago 317449 miles. Bought at an auction for 300.00$. Working on issues. Misfire on cylinder 1. Changed all fluids top & bottom. Need to pull my diff sensor & clean it, traction control error. Most comfortable riding car I've ever owned. Hoping for 500K.

317,500...nice! I strongly suggest you change the CVT fluid and HP filter if you want any hope of it lasting that long.

293,000 and still kicking here. Love the car, need to replace the wheel hubs as it is noisy going down the road. But the wife is tired of it, she's been driving it for the past 8 years. So I want it to get to 300,000 and I'll get her another and keep the Freestyle for a couple of months as a backup, but most likely will be sold by end of summer IF it hits 300,00 first. Not going anywhere till that happens. ;)
