213,842 miles on mine, and the only problems with it was the $30 high compression valve for the a/c, the throttle body needed to be cleaned, and a cold solder joint on the gauge cluster. just completed a 7000 mile trip :D and we've owned the car since 2008 when it had 38,000 miles
2005 Ford Freestyle 214,000 miles
1990 Mitsubishi Montero LS 113,000 miles
1985 Chevrolet S10 150,000 miles
1971 MG Midget 98,000 miles
1972 MG Midget Ground Up Restoration 1,000 miles
1979 Honda CB750s 21,000miles

wow, congratulations!!!

you now have the second highest mileage on the forum (for the freestyle)......i hope you go up to 500,000 trouble-free miles to prove these CVTs can last long.

the record is still "Jepotter's" who had 262,000+ miles about 2-3 months ago on his 2005 Freestyle.

can you share the maintenance wisdom of how the CVT lasted this long? how often did you change the CVT Oil and the High Pressure Filter, etc ?

again, congratulations!!!

The blocked catalytic converter caused a hole to melt in the intake manifold via the EGR valve which resulted in a new intake and EGR
Just a question about the driveablity of your F/S when the Intake Manifold melted. Did it affect the performance of your car, ie. the transmission started to act odd?
I just completed [or incompleted] a 450km trip, where at 300km, I noticed that the RPM on a resume of 105km/h went up to 3500, when the vehicle had already reached about 100km/h, and then finally dropped to 1750, when it reached the setting. After about 25 minutes of driving, made a stop, at a junction, the proceeded to accelerate up to road speed, at which the rpm's rose to about 2500, and the vehicle would only reach about 60km/h, and leave the rpm's reving. I limped it about 25km to a Ford dealer, and the ran the OBDII scan, and called me by Cell, to imform me that there were numerous codes, and seemed like a mass vacumn leak was evident, but because it was Saturday, they would not be able to fix/troubleshoot any further. I had an appointment about 90km away, so I had left it with them, and in view of the diagnosis, I requested that they leave it outside, and I would pick it up Sunday, and get it back to my local dealer.
After returning a day later, I was able to drive it about 90km/h, @ 1500rpm, and made it the 300km home. But if I was trying to push it, say at 2200rpm, it just sounded like the motor was reving but no real increase in speed. If I feathered it back to 1500, it would cruise along just fine.
After having a local service look at it today, they confirmed the EGR intake was melted, and a couple of pinholes burnt in the top of the intake manifold. They also want to indicate that the CVT is toast, but don't have any real reason at this point, except they notice a "slipping?" at the higher rev's, and a U0401 DTC.
Any other thoughts on this condition, as I wait for the Intake Plenum composite to be ordered, and a new EGR/MAP sensor control?

In my situation, the Freestyle was undriveable. By that I mean, the hole in the intake was so large the engine could not stay running. The car would start and idle very rough and when the throttle was even touched, it would die. The symptoms you describe of no power and inability to maintain speed and 'cutting out' or 'misfiring' happened to mine just before it became undriveable (the hole got bigger). My OBD codes were all vacuum and egr related. You must have them check for exhaust blockage or you may be right back where you started after you replace the intake and egr. I diagnosed mine by taping up the hole in the intake (with foil duct tape) and unhooking the exhaust pipe right in front of the catalytic converter. Other than being very loud, it ran perfect.

Thanks for the feedback.
It must be that my leakage is just marginal, because the idle seems perfect, and almost no hesitation under no load. [ie. Neutral] But after a diagnosis and an estimate of 1100.00 for the Intake Manifold and EGR assy, I guess I'm comitted. Parts on order, overnight delivery, and we should here soon. BTW, still able to drive the vehicle around town, but still a loss of power on serious accelleration. So the holes must be small enough to allow a good low end driving experience. Will ask about blocked exhaust/cats next time in to the service center.
Will report back the final analysis when it happens...

about 20 minutes ago i test drove one with 335000km on it, with apparantly no issues, glad to see there are a few higher milage ones out there.

the car will be going to see my mechanic on monday and if it isn't in too bad a shape, i guess we'll be freestyle owners. i know the wiper motor will need replacement, and we'll see if it has any other problems. hopefully not. the milage really scares me, but it won't see a lot of use, and hopefully will hold up ok.

well, here's some CVT facts from the records on here:

1...NONE of the cars with mileage above 200,000 miles have ever failed.....NONE....ZERO....NADA

2... highest number of the reported failures happened between 25,000 - 80,000.

3....a lower number of failures from 90,000 - 150,000.

4....far lower failure between 150,000 - 199,000.

some people here have said that there seems to be a reduced risk of failure as the CVTs cross the 100,000 miles mark.

interesting.......i wasn't able to give it a really good run, i want to do a quick little highway run before we finalize.

very interesting transmisson type, need to read a bit more on it.

it is a highway driven car from what i can see, and probably has the same running hours as a car driven in a city with 1/4 of the milage.

this is one of these tough decisions, we are replacing a pile of junk, with someone elses....the lesser of two evils i guess. i am hoping it checks out ok at the mechanics on monday.

Hello all!

I'm back.

I now have slowed down on the long trips.....so I now have 358K. Nothing more changed since the cvt at 274k. Still have the original fuel pump, engine and parts. On the engine only thing change beyond regular maintenance is the water pump and thermostat.

I honestly feel this vehicle is the best value of all the new cars I've bought.

All the best to my fellow owners.

So, 358K must be the highest. There's a fellow in another thread here that has 270K. Me, I am sailing a bit over 180K, with broken CVT around 140K.
