who has the most miles ?

Post by cvsting » Sun Jul 10, 2011 4:49 pm

I know there was a post on here before about who has the most miles, ours is a 2007 LTD with about 73,000 which I know does not come close to some. We've done the regular maintenance oil and filter and CV services with little problems here and there, but so far so good.

Tell us how many miles you have and how its holding up.

There really ought to be two categories, total miles, and rate of mileage accumulation. Older cars have an advantage in getting to total mileage, and I've seen some posts on here where '05 Freestyle owners have reported over 150,000 miles on theirs.

Yours, with 73,000 over four years, is accumulating miles at about 18,000 per year. That's pretty high given that the national average is about 13,500.

Over the time we owned our '05, we put on just under 19,000 per year.

My '07 has about 80,700 miles on it right now. Battery died last night, so she is now on her 3rd battery.

At about 80K Miles, I did what I assume is the first drain and fill on the CVT, and did an oil change as well (switched her to her first full sythetic Mobil 1 5w-20 oil).

Still has the airbag light on - I've unplugged and re-plugged all the connections under the passenger seat to no avail. I hate to say this, but it may be dealer time for this issue.... :-(

Wow, we are still on our OEM battery. Granted, the "eye" is now more orange than green but I have been religiously refilling the receptacles with distilled water and there is no slow-starting or hesitation. However, I feel like we may have to replace it this coming winter. Cold temps seem to really do them in.

hi,

ccould you please let me know when you finally resolve the airbag light issue, and what they do to fix it eventually.

mine also has the "Passenger Airbag" LED on the instrument cluster blinking ON, and the one at the top of the radio/ac area too blinking.

i've not been able to fix it with connectors unplug/plug attempts under the front seats.

2005 FS SEL with 102,000 miles (bought new).
- Had the wrench come on for the TB issue (around 80,000 mi) once, cleaned the TB, and haven't had trouble since.
- Trans fluid + filter @ 60,000 mi (by dealer). Then fluid only change @ 90,000 mi (myself).
- Planning on changing the plugs + PCV + EGR soon, but haven't gotten around to it yet.
- Changed rear brake pads twice (once by dealer under warranty), changed rear rotors once.
- Did cabin air filter mod. Changed the filter once since I did it (about a year or so ago).
- The regular oil changes (every 5000ish mi), air filter, fuel filter changes (30,000ish mi), radiator fluid.
- On my 2nd battery.
- Had a leaky front passenger foot well due to a popped out grommet.
- Started out just hauling my baby boy. He's six, now, with 2 brothers and a sister on the way!

2005 bought used with 38K miles on it, we are right at 138K now so we have put 100K on it ourselves. Just got back last night from 1000+ mile round trip to Palo Duro Canyon, no issues at all. The cheapy-repaired a/c kept us all cool even when outside temp was reading 107. Oil changes were at 7500 miles up till it hit 100K, now changes are at 5000 miles.

I just hit 160,000. 2005 AWD. Just finished a 1400 mile trip through the Smokey Mountains, no problems at all

Oil change every 5000 - has never used any oil and it is still clear and only very light brown when changed

CVT fluid drained and filled at about 100k (with HP filter change) and again at 150K

Spark plugs around 100K

Radiator fluid around 100K

Brake fluid around 100K

Power steering fluid around 100K

Rear differential and Haldex fluid and filter around 100K

Replaced front struts and mounts (front driver strut broke) at about 80K

Catalytic converter clogged (final, just in front of muffler) - I knocked out all the substrate and has been running fine ever since

The blocked catalytic converter caused a hole to melt in the intake manifold via the EGR valve which resulted in a new intake and EGR

PCV valve replaced

Replaced several coils

Replaced engine roll resistor with volvo fix described on forum

Driver door lock actuator replaced

Two questions:

1. Have you had the car since new?

2. We can assume, then, that the CVT flush was not done at the 60K mark as called for in the manual? Rather, you waited until 100K? Any reason why?

Jaunty, I got the car around 75K miles. As far as the CVT fluid change, I changed it when I realized I wanted to keep the car as long as possible and then got serious about maintainenance.

Oh yea, I just remember I also changed the rear diff oil and rear transmission (haldex) fluid and filter

i followed your posts, along with jaunty75 and Jack Watts' on another topic:

http://www.myfordfreestyle.com/forums/v ... f=1&t=2928

how did you eventually end up checking your CVT fluid to get the correct levels: was it while the engine was ON or OFF ?

Howdy gents (and ladies). Have been reading the forums here for a while and thought I'd get involved. I have a standard SE 2006 Freestyle with 153,000 miles on it. The 06 was built in May, 2006 and CarFax showed it to be owned by a car rental facility. They sold the car at auction at 20,000 miles. I purchased the car in Jan, 2007 with 21,500 miles on it and am averaging a bit under 35,000 miles per year on it. It's my work car and we also used it for vacations. Virtually trouble free except at 36,500 miles we had CVT problems. Being just out of warranty, I called Ford and to my surprise they worked with me on it. The repair on it was $1400 but Ford picked up $1000 of the price. No other problems until recently. Had the infamous A/C problem (the scroll compressor control valve) and got that fixed for cheap. Had recently started having the throttle body issue (started about 3 weeks ago) and have cleaned the unit twice (2nd time just yesterday). If that doesn't fix that problem I'll order a unit and intall myself as its a 20 minute job. Lastly, I've been looking for the roll resistor bushing fix and found it here as well. The part is on order now. Another cheap easy fix. Thanks so much for all. I'll try to contribute as I can. The only thing I haven't seen here in the forums is my Aux radio fix. Since my wife and I live to travel, I created a wooden desk that hangs from the passenger side dashboard grab bar. It does not interfere if the air bag needs to be deployed. My wife likes to watch movies when we travel, and I wanted to pipe the sound out of the laptop to the stereo system. I bought a kit from ebay for about $50 that plugs into the back of the radio. I took the leads from that and soldered a female 1/8" input jack and drilled the corresponding hole in the carbon fiber radio cover. Now my Aux button works and I can input any device (phone, mp3 player, laptop) thru the car sound system. Its actually quite amazing. If requested, I'll post pics. Again, thanks everyone for a great forum.
UPDATE: Had to order the throttle body and installed it myself. Seems to have perfectly cured the problem. Thanks again.
